JA programs are offered at no cost to public schools and require 3-6 hours of class time.
Kindergarten: Ourselves
— Through a storybook and related activities, students learn about how working earns money, the value of money, teamwork and consumer choices.
1st Grade: Our Families
— Students learn about the role of families in the local economy, jobs held by family members, their family's economic needs and wants, and how working together makes a community a better place to live.
2nd Grade: Our Community
— Students learn what a community is, the role of the government in the community, production methods, group decision making and basic banking activities.
3rd Grade: Our City
— Students explore career options through fun activities in construction, city planning, journalism, restaurant management, and banking.
4th Grade: Our Region
— Students explore states' resouces, identify solutions to a business problem, look at business income and expenses, and learn what it would be like to run their own business.
5th Grade: Our Nation
— Students learn the free enterprise concepts of organization, management, production, marketing and sales. Activities include job applications and interviews, unit and mass production, and advertising strategies.
6th Grade: JA Global Marketplace
— Students learn about resources from different countries, why nations trade with one another, the definition of an import and export, and foreign currency exchange rates.
