May 20th was the best day ever for over 700 Broward County Public Schools students and their families at our Books, Bucks and Backpacks event, presented by CITY Furniture.
A partnership with Broward County Public Schools, hundreds of elementary and middle school students and their families came to JA World for a day of fun-filled activities. JA provided supplies to help them make the most of their summer break, including healthcare resources, summer safety tips, academic retention materials, financial literacy tools, backpacks and school supplies.

SUMMER HEALTH & WELLNESS
- Over 60% of all summer-related injuries occur among children ages 2-11
- Studies show children gain weight at a faster rate during the summer months than during the school year
- 23% of child drownings happen during a family gathering near a pool

- On average, students lose 17–34% of the prior year’s learning gains
- On average, students lose about 20% of school-year gains in reading and 27% in math during the summer break

On May 21st, 2022, Junior Achievement joined forces with Broward Schools, other education partners, local businesses and healthcare providers for the Books, Bucks & Backpacks event, presented by CITY Furniture. Over 1,200 Broward County Public Schools students and their families attended.
The families enjoyed the games and obstacle course activities, courtesy of Funky Buddha Brewery, the We Florida Financial dunk tank, free food provided by PDQ and the Health Foundation of South Florida healthy snack station, the Molina Healthcare photo booth, the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital cooling station and so much more!
The best part – students received OneMain Financial backpacks and had the opportunity to fill them up with school supplies (thanks to the City of Coconut Creek), PNC piggy banks, financial literacy and healthcare tips, and other “sliding into summer success” goodies from our partners. Also thanks to the Florida Lottery, which continues to be a dedicated partner to Florida’s students and schools – contributing over $1 billion to education each of the past 20 consecutive years!
