Development and Events Director

Junior Achievement of South Florida (JA) inspires and prepares youth to succeed in a global economy. JA provides real-world training in financial literacy including budgeting, spending, investing and the use of credit; offers cutting-edge skill-building opportunities that enable young people to explore meaningful, productive careers; teaches students how to start businesses; and introduces entrepreneurial values that strengthen workplaces. Last year, with the help of over 7,000 trained corporate and community volunteers, JA delivered twenty-plus various programs to almost 50,000 students in classrooms throughout Broward and south Palm Beach Counties.

Position Description:

This role oversees all special and annual fundraising events for the Junior Achievement of South Florida. This position also offers a great opportunity for an entrepreneurial and seasoned sales person and relationship developer to increase sponsorships and strategic corporate partnerships by creating the opportunity strategies, identifying, cultivating, and developing leads and prospects, negotiating vendor proposals, closing deals, ensuring delivery of benefits and providing overall management of relationships.

This role will uphold quality standards for the organization, assures adherence to oversight processes and develops and maintains positive relationships at all levels. The Development and Event Director reports directly to the Vice President of Development and works closely with the Vice President of Operations, Vice President of Programs, Marketing Manager, JA Board Members, community partners, donors, mentors and advocates.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Fundraising Events

  • Create, develop and manage all fundraising events (current annual events include (subject to change): Ultimate Night Out, JA Bowl-A-Thon, JA World Uncorked, JA Business Hall of Fame, Spark Tank Finale, Marti Huizenga Roll Up Your Sleeves Awards and Rose Soiree)
  • Oversee all aspects of the fundraising events including the leadership committee, marketing/PR, budgeting/financial documentation, silent/live auctions, entertainment, logistics, staffing, volunteers, décor, insurance, guest lists, A/V, program development, etc.
  • Manage staff members serving in key roles relating to the success of the events – CEO, Development Team, Marketing Manager, Facility Director, etc.
  • Recruit, train and recognize event volunteers.
  • Serve as liaison to special event committees and help recruit committee members.
  • Provide post-event evaluation and suggestions for improvement.
  • Work with Marketing Manager to ensure assigned events are promoted in timely and effective manner, before, during and after event dates.
  • Ensure accurate financial records by following all Accounting Policies and Procedures.
  • Communicate with vendors to negotiate best possible pricing and partnerships.
  • Reevaluate all aspects of annual events and refresh areas as needed to keep events current and exciting.

Additional Events

  • Manage other Junior Achievement events and/or events at JA World as needed. This includes some Program-related events, special receptions, etc.

Staff Management

  • Supervise the Events Manager to ensure he/she is meeting all stated goals.

Resource Development

  • Develop and maintain relationships to secure funding for projects, events, programs, organizational capacity building and capital improvements.
  • Using a consultative selling approach, work with prospects to gain a clear understanding of their priorities to develop customized sponsorship and proposal packages to secure financial support.
  • Schedule tours and meeting with funders to advocate support of programming that impacts their funding priorities.
  • Solicit new funders through a variety of methods including large/small group presentations and outreach to corporate partners, individuals and foundations.
  • Maintain accurate financial records; prepare invoice requests and gift pledges; manage budget with no overages; properly code and organize all expenses.
  • Maintain accurate and updated records of all contacts and revenue projection pipeline of opportunities, highlighting all the prospecting, research, networking, outbound calls, etc.
  • Oversee partner requirements and deliverables are completed specific to support agreements such as marketing metrics, testimonials, reports, etc. Work with JA staff to ensure data is collected and reports are delivered.
  • Work with Manager of Strategic Partnerships to develop and implement recognition programs that are of interest and value to supporting partners, including event attendance, awards, and recognition.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint required. SharePoint, Teams a plus) and advanced computer literacy
  • 5 or more years of full-scale event production management leadership
  • 5 or more years of direct experience in corporate and individual fundraising, relationship development, proposal writing and report management
  • Knowledge and experience with donor databases, BCRM experience a plus
  • Experience in customer service best practices

Schedule and Compensation:

  • This is a salaried position with a compensation package that includes generous Paid Time Off, medical benefits fully paid for the individual and additional workplace benefits.
  • Regular work hours are 8:30am-5pm (minimum 40-hour work week), however fulfilling responsibilities and meeting goals may require additional hours on evenings and weekends.
  • Occasional support is required for organization signature events that may occur on weeknights and weekends.
  • This position requires the employee to work from administrative offices at JA World.
  • Special event support will be required on some weeknights, weekends, and holidays for JA events..
