JA World Remote Learning Program

Providing a safe and secure environment for K-8th grade students during COVID-19

For more information or if you need assistance with registration, please call (954) 979-7100 or email Info@JASouthFlorida.org.

Junior Achievement of South Florida (JA) has been dedicated to being a resource to educators, parents and students for over 60 years. In addition to providing JA’s traditional financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work readiness programs via virtual platforms, JA will also open it’s 60,000 square foot learning center as a safe place for students to learn and thrive as they participate in e-learning this fall. JA is also is providing after school for a fun and engaging day for your child!

With most schools planning to educate our students virtually, JA is dedicated to supporting the needs of families that must return to work, focus on work at home or whose children require a safe, supportive learning environment outside the home to learn best. JA World Huizenga Center at the Lillian S. Wells Pavilion, located on the Broward College North campus in Coconut Creek, offers that safe, supervised learning center for your children. CDC guidelines will be strictly enforced.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

With the guidance of our professional staff, students will complete their daily schoolwork online and then have opportunities to

  • Learn and play through engaging JA activities and projects around financial literacy, career skills and entrepreneurship
  • Participate in other age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, STEM projects and interactive physical games all while following proper CDC guidelines and social distancing protocols.

Students must bring their laptops, masks, basic school supplies and lunch/snacks. You can go to work each day assured your child is safe by maintaining a 6-foot distance from their peers, washing and sanitizing their hands often, wearing protective masks, and being supervised by experienced and well-trained staff.

HEALTH & SAFETY PROCEDURES

Junior Achievement of South Florida is dedicated to providing a safe environment for our staff, students and guests. We will continue to monitor local conditions and guidelines as they evolve through the COVID-19 pandemic and will adjust our policies accordingly. We will follow the CDC guidelines, as well as recommendations from the Florida Department of Health and Broward County.

Students will be grouped by grade level in groups of 9 students and groups will not mix during the day. Each group of 9 students will have 1-2 instructors with them throughout the day. Students will be seated 6ft apart from each other within their groups and will also be 6ft apart during other activities (lunch, games, etc.).

  • Due to the nature of instructors helping students with their school work on laptops, we understand that occasionally instructors will need to be less than 6ft apart from the student, however the instructor will limit that less than 6ft distance as much as possible for the safety of everyone.
  • Students will not be sharing any supplies unless they have been sanitized between uses.

JA World has been upgraded with a variety of new features to provide enhanced safety of the students and staff, including:

  • Ventilation System – In accordance with ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) JA has increased the minimum outside air damper position on all of the AC Units. JA has also upgraded to MERV 13 Green Pleat filters to improve central air filtration.
  • Hand Hygiene Supplies are available throughout the building including hand sanitizer stations, hand soap and paper towels.
  • Electrostatic Disinfecting – JA World will be cleaned following the CDC guidelines and using CDC and EPA approved disinfectants. In addition to JA’s normal operational cleaning, additional procedures include:
    • Cleaning and disinfecting of high touch areas throughout the day
    • Cleaning and disinfecting of high touch areas each night and electrostatic spraying of all areas that multiple individuals use each day (for example lobby, main corridors, door handles, carpeting, etc.). Electrostatic spray surface cleaning is the process of spraying an electrostatically charged mist onto surfaces and objects. Because the particles in the spray are positively charged, they cling to and coat any surface they are aimed at.

Everyone entering JA World will be required to complete a Symptoms & Temperature Screening. Anyone who is found to have a temperature above 99.0F, and/or other symptoms of COVID-19 will not be permitted to enter. A negative COVID-19 antigen test will be required prior to return.

Symptoms appear within 2 to 14 days and can include:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Students, and/or staff suspected of having a communicable disease will not be allowed at JA World. In order to ensure the health and safety of everyone, we ask that everyone:

  • Check for viral symptoms daily
  • If anyone experiences any of the symptoms listed above or if anyone in their household experiences these symptoms, they must stay home.
  • If a viral antigen test is positive (or it a household member tests positive, or the student has direct contact with someone else who tests positive), the student must remain at home for a minimum of two weeks (longer if symptoms and a positive result persist). A negative viral antigen test must be provided to JA prior to the student’s return to the program. In order to return to the program, students must:
    • have no fever >99.0F (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and
    • exhibit no viral-like symptoms, and
    • provide a physician’s note with a negative viral antigen test.

In the event that a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, our team will work to safely limit the amount of students and staff members who must be tested and/or quarantine. This technique, along with managing assigned small groups without mixing, may help avoid a program-wide closure. All students and their families who are in the same group with the infected child will be notified if a student or staff member has symptoms and/or tests positive. It is the decision JA to take a more stringent approach of a test-based strategy

to help ensure the highest level of safety, despite the more relaxed CDC Guidelines. In order to help provide a safe atmosphere, please:

  • DO NOT send your sick child to JA World.
  • DO NOT administer medication to conceal symptoms.
  • DO NOT send your child to JA World if a member of your household tests positive for the virus or exhibits flu-like symptoms

The use of a face covering can potentially slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others. Good hand hygiene can also slow the spread of contagious diseases, including COVID19.

  • Everyone at JA World must wear a face mask at all times (except when eating lunch which will require social distancing). Students will be required to bring 2 masks with them to JA each day (one to wear, and one as a back up in case theirs breaks or becomes dirty).
  • We expect students to wash their hands frequently, and use hand sanitizer whenever possible, especially before entering the classroom and eating.

LOCATION & FACILITY

The Remote Learning Program will be offered in the beautiful, 60,000 square foot JA World Huizenga Center at the Lillian S. Wells Pavilion, located at 1130 Coconut Creek Blvd., Coconut Creek, FL 33066. Conveniently located on the Broward College North Campus just off the Florida Turnpike and close I-95 and the Sawgrass Expressway. Known locally as “JA World”, this facility is home to JA BizTown and JA Finance Park, interactive learning centers where over 40,000 students typically visit each school year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, those programs are being offered online to students throughout Broward and south Palm Beach counties, so the building will be fully dedicated to the Remote Learning Program.

The ample square footage and unique design, including individual “storefronts”, allows for students to be together with their small groups in designated areas throughout the building. Each student will have a dedicated workspace for the laptop and belongings.

The building also features state of the art WiFi and A/V systems (upgraded in 2019), full security system with HD cameras that are accessible to local law enforcement (also updated in 2019), close proximity to emergency services, and easy entry/exit lanes for easy student drop off and pick up.
