Two Dynamic Women Will Be Recognized At Rosé Soirée

JA Event Honors Woman of Wisdom Maureen Canada and Spark Award Recipient Ana Rodriguez

BROWARD COUNTY, FL — For 50 years, Maureen Canada and her family ran the Lighthouse Point Marina and Nauti Dawg Marina and Café in Lighthouse Point. This year, her decades of service to the community, and her passion for philanthropy, will be recognized by Junior Achievement of South Florida (JA) when the organization’s JA Circle of Wise Women (CWW) honor Canada with the Woman of Wisdom Award at the 2023 Rosé Soirée.

Rosé Soirée, featuring Title Sponsor CITY Furniture and presented by TD Bank, is an annual fundraising event for Junior Achievement of South Florida that gathers empowered women, business entrepreneurs and leaders in philanthropy to mingle over appetizers and sip Rosé while support JA’s financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness programs. This festive affair is hosted by the CWW, a women’s philanthropic group that believes JA programs are a springboard to show today’s youth their potential for success.

The CWW was founded in May of 2009 at the home of Janet Davis with only 10 original members. Now, the CWW boasts a membership of more than 180 women. Since its inception, the group has raised more than $5 million for Junior Achievement of South Florida.

Rosé Soirée is a fun opportunity for the CWW to pin new members of the group, present scholarships to highly deserving high school girls and honor two women with special awards.

The first award, the Woman of Wisdom Award, will go to Canada who has been an active member of the CWW and a recognized business leader in Broward County. She will share her personal formula for success as a profitable family business leader and inspire event attendees with her passion for social advocacy.

The second award, the Spark Award, will be given to Ana Rodriguez, Florida Power & Light Community Relations Specialist. Rodriguez is the first ever to be recognized with this new award, which recognizes an exceptional female trailblazer. Rodriguez has been a mentor in JA’s Girls Rule program, Girls Rule host committee member since its inception and is an active volunteer in JA’s Career Bound and Pre-Apprentice Programs. She serves on the board of directors at Henderson Behavioral Health and Pace Center for Girls Palm Beach.

Last year, Rosé Soirée raised $110,000 for JA programs. Exotic, glamorous, risque, festive, exciting… These are all words that could be used to describe Moulin Rouge. Perhaps, that is why the enticing concept was used as a theme for the latest JA World Uncorked, held on January 28 at the JA World Huizenga Center at the Lillian S. Wells Pavilion, 1130 Coconut Creek Blvd. in Coconut Creek. Hosted by the Circle of Wise Women, this yearly event benefits Junior Achievement of South Florida.

The theme wasn’t the only thing they changed this year. The event continues to improve, and this year, they brought in more money than ever before – a historic $345,000 and more than 700 guests!

Also this year, the food options seemed more diverse than ever, and delicious, everything from a light and airy panna cotta to a soul-satisfying smoky pulled pork. Guests could start with trying a Caesars salad and tortilla soup and maybe grab some of Yot’s famous fish dip and move on to items like sliders, prime rib, pasta, sashimi and countless other delectable options from local restaurants, and then finish with desserts like cookies, cake, cream puffs, tarts or Italian Ice.

The spirits on hand were just as plentiful and varied. Guests could choose a refreshing and lemony light KLEO-Patra, a mixture of the Greek spirit KLEOS, lemon juice, simple syrup and basil, or opt for a taste of a creamy Pennyslvania Dutch Salted Caramel drink. They could sip their favorite wines, grab a gelatin shot, choose a craft beer from Funky Budha, enjoy Canyon’s prickly pear margarita and more. There was even an espresso martini cart, by Gray Robinson, P.A, where the purveyor got on the bicycle attached and pedaled to grind his own coffee! Yvette and Bob Birdsong sponsored a welcome cocktail for everyone… the Capital Grill Stoli Doli. The variety of wine, spirits, beer and seltzers kept guests happy all night long and the culinary options kept them smiling. DJs played music throughout while guests roamed.

Junior Achievement gave 17-year-old Jayden Bonhomme something that school could not. And that’s the point. This is a story of burgeoning self-esteem,validation, and an epiphany that his varied interests could lead to a viable career path.

Through its Youth Employment program, which is part of JA Career Bound, the organization helps teenagers prepare for the workforce. They learn interviewing skills, presentation skills, collaboration, conflict resolution, networking, how different companies in varied sectors function—in short, the real world.

“Research says that students graduate from high school knowing only about five to eight jobs,” says Laurie Sallarulo, president and CEO of JA of South Florida. The program serves to remedy that. For Bonhomme, JA—and Career Bound, in particular—made him envision a future as a health care administrator. “I became acquainted with Junior Achievement in high school during my freshman year,” Bonhomme recalls. “I remember everyone was getting dressed up for mock interviews, and I thought, I want to be a part of that.” The first time Bonhomme walked into JA’s Town Square, for a field trip during his sophomore year, he noted the breadth of the organization’s reach—various colleges, Broward Health, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, the FBI and the military were all represented.

CITY OF COCONUT CREEK, FL – Junior Achievement of South Florida’s (JA) Circle of Wise Women will host its signature culinary event, JA World Uncorked, presented by Breakthru Beverage Florida and amplified by Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm at JA World Huizenga Center at the Lilian S. Wells Pavilion.

JA World Uncorked is an indoor food and spirits festival featuring tantalizing bites and indulgent desserts from some of South Florida’s finest restaurants and a vast selection of premier wines, champagne, spirits and craft beers from Breakthru Beverage Florida and Funky Buddha Brewery.

“JA World Uncorked is the complete experience for wine and food lovers. We anticipate more than 600 people to attend this event that brings music, gourmet food, assorted spirits, wine and craft brews together in one amazing venue for a great cause. Junior Achievement® of South Florida’s Inaugural “Girls Rule ― Ignite Your Super Power” Virtual Event on March 31 Connected Over 200 Local High School Girls with Successful Women 

COCONUT CREEK, FL – On March 31, over 200 girls from South Florida high schools were able to connect with accomplished women during Junior Achievement® (JA) of South Florida’s inaugural “Girls Rule ― Ignite Your Super Power” virtual event. Junior Achievement’s “Girls Rule” is one amazing initiative and two virtual events that celebrate, empower, and inspire women and girls.

During the March 31 virtual event, students who might not have the opportunity to be influenced and mentored by strong women role models engaged with inspiring and exciting keynote speakers. In addition, they attended breakout sessions led by experienced women leaders, paired with young female JA alumnae; and received a swag bag.

Serving as the event’s keynote speaker was Ari Chambers, a New York City-based multimedia journalist, sports host, and social media manager. Chambers is the founder of HighlightHER, a rapidly-growing women’s sports platform. Jeanine Suah and Maghan Morin, co-founders of Thynk Global, also served as guest speakers for the event.

Breakout session topics covered self-care, goal setting, financial wellness, self-invention, personal branding, making responsible choices, building positive relationships, self-acceptance, effective teamwork, the power of positivity, and effective communication/public speaking.

“‘Girls Rule,’ held during International Women’s Month, was an outstanding success,” said Laurie Sallarulo, Junior Achievement of South Florida president & CEO. “We connected over 200 girls in South Florida with resilient and forward-thinking women of today, with the common vision to transform and advance the world for future generations of women.”

This virtual event celebrates the 2020 Woman of Wisdom (WOW) Honoree Susan Renneisen, Vice President of Community Affairs and Special Events at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. It also pins the newest members of the CWW, as well as awards three deserving female students from JA programs with scholarships. 

“Even the JA Circle of Wise Women founding members had no idea how significant their impact would be. Initially, the mission was to support and advocate for JA. But this amazing group of women that created JA World Uncorked and the Rose Soiree have now expanded their reach to provide scholarship opportunities for young women from JA’s high school programs.  JA’s CWW recognizes Renneisen as this year’s WOW because she is not only hard working and committed but has added much needed value and innovation in her industry. Starting her career in the hospitality industry, she began to establish her reputation as an innovative event planner, caterer and decorator while working with several casinos.  

Her talents range from event production, logistics, marketing, catering, convention services and employee training. She also has dedicated her time and talents to Junior Achievement of South Florida and CWW, including assisting with the production of the 10th Anniversary of JA World Uncorked.

The pinning ceremony will recognize six of the newest CWW members including: Grazia Bulte, Grace V Events; Ann Burris, Holland America Line; Brenda Horner, Consolidated Credit Solutions; Anita Paoli Kotler, Law Offices of A. Paoli, P.A; Lisa Morley, Maritime Professional Training; and Caitlin Stella, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. 

Unlike previous years, this Rose Soiree will be a unique virtual event due to the safety concerns of COVID-19. Guests will be receiving a bag of cheer delivered straight to their doors with Rose wine, a delectable charcuteries board catered by Red Chair Catering and a scrumptious dessert from Batch Cookie Company. 

Ticket prices start at $55 per person with VIP ($75) and CWW member ($65) options that include a raffle ticket valued at $25. Raffle tickets for $25 each or 3 for $100 are also available to the public for a Lilly Pulitzer bag filled with Lilly, basket of Rose and other incredible items. Proceeds from this event support scholarships for young women in JA programs entering college or seeking career certifications, summer camps and other initiatives that promote entrepreneurships, work readiness and financial literacy.
