Storefront Ribbon-Cutting and Community Impact Honoree Celebration

Broward County, FL — On October 24, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Junior Achievement of South Florida (JA) will host its annual Community Impact Breakfast to honor JA partners, trailblazing leaders and unveil new and refreshed storefronts in JA World’s simulated cities — JA BizTown and JA Finance Park. Every year more than 80,000 local students participate in experiential classroom lessons and JA World simulations, learning financial literacy, entrepreneurship and workplace readiness so they can be prepared for the future.

This event is an opportunity for local leaders in business, education and philanthropy to network and celebrate the impact JA and its partners are having on the lives of our youth.  JA is honored to recognize community leaders and organizations dedicated to empowering and supporting youth through workforce development. The 2023 Impact Honorees are:

  • Stefano Selorio, Carevocacy – Distinguished Alumni Award
  • Michael Fischler – JA Board Impact Leader
  • Broward County – Government Partner
  • Broward Sheriff’s Office – Community Partner
  • TD Bank – Corporate Partner

We are pleased to announce Dr. Peter Licata, newly appointed Broward County Public Schools Superintendent, will be the keynote speaker to kick off the 2023-2024 school year partnership.

The storefronts, which are sponsored by local businesses, serve as fun, experiential learning experiences as our students begin to inform perceptions about brands of choice, career pathways and household/business financial management. Thanks to a partnership with Broward County Public Schools, every fifth grader and eighth grader in Broward County participates in JA’s immersive programs in the JA World Huizenga Center at the Lillian S. Wells Pavilion.

The 2023 list of new storefront partners to be recognized at this event includes: Aetna CVS Health, Amazon, Broward County, Broward County Public Schools, Children’s Services of Broward County, It’s A 10 Haircare, Cozen O’Connor, Farris Foundation, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, South Florida Symphony Orchestra and United Way of Broward. Refreshed storefront partners include CITY Furniture, JM Family Enterprises (JM Toyota) and Sea the World, which features various marine industry businesses.

Junior Achievement of South Florida hosts 33rd Annual JA Business Hall of Fame Awards

COCONUT CREEK, FL — On April 21, Junior Achievement of South Florida will host its 33rd annual JA Business Hall of Fame Awards Dinner, presented by American Express. This highly anticipated celebration recognizes outstanding leaders who have shown bold vision, commitment to excellence, courageous leadership and community responsibility. Masters of Ceremony Steve Hudson and Andy Cagnetta will guide us through the cocktail-attire event which will take place at JA World Huizenga Center at the Lillian S. Wells Pavilion from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

This year, we will induct three extraordinary leaders into the JA Business Hall of Fame; Carolyn Aronson, Founder of It’s a 10 Haircare; Gary Press, CEO of Fortress Legal Plan, CEO of Alternative Revenue Solution and former CEO of Lifestyles Magazines; and Gregory Haile, President of Broward College. They will join a prestigious group of over 120 Laureates.

JA will honor its first Youth Laureates, recognizing exceptional young innovators. Setting the bar high with this first honor are twin sisters, Hadley and Delaney Robertson, who launched BraceTrack, an app that helps people like them, living with scoliosis.

JA will also continue to celebrate the legacies of Wayne and Marti Huizenga and Melissa Aiello. The Huizenga Lifetime Legacy Award, named in 2016 in honor of two of our most selfless community advocates and philanthropists, will be presented to Mike and Alice Jackson. The Jacksons, like the Huizengas, have created lasting change and left a deep legacy on our community.

The Melissa Aiello Character Award will be given to Allison and Andrew Cagnetta. This award was created in 2015 in honor of the late Melissa Aiello, past President & CEO & President of Junior Achievement of South Florida, who lived her life dedicated to service, integrity and honor. The Cagnettas live and serve with integrity and honor and possess a strong commitment to giving back.

Five Top Community Leaders will be Inducted into Business Hall of Fame. Two Additional Outstanding Individuals will Receive Prestigious Awards.

City of Coconut Creek, Florida — Junior Achievement is hosting the JA Business Hall of Fame, presented by American Express, Friday, May 13, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. Event will occur at JA World Huizenga Center at the Lillian S. Wells Pavilion.

Five top community leaders, who have made a significant impact in their industry and have demonstrated vision, commitment to excellence, courageous leadership and community responsibility, will be inducted into the JA Business Hall of Fame. The 2022 Laureates are Jon and Ron Antevy (eBuilder), Milton L. Jones (Milton Jones Development Corporation), Ramon Rodriguez (WithMyDoc, Inc.) and Mark Warren (International Materials LLC).

This year’s special award honorees are Harry Patten (Patten Family Foundation) and Juliet Roulhac (Florida Power & Light). Harry Patten, who’s loyal dedication to Junior Achievement of South Florida, will receive the Huizenga Lifetime Legacy Award, created in honor of the late Marti and Wayne Huizenga in 2016.

At the Patten Family Foundation JA Finance Park, each year more than 20,000 eighth grade students from Broward and south Palm Beach Counties learn how financial decisions will impact their lives. These include expenses related to family health care, real estate and home improvements, automobiles, insurance, entertainment, education, and purchasing items such as clothing, furniture and groceries.

Juliet Roulhac will receive the Melissa Aiello Character Award, created in 2015 in recognition of Melissa Aiello, the former CEO & President of Junior Achievement of South Florida who lived her life with integrity and honor. Juliet has dedicated her life to philanthropic endeavors and community engagement so much that it has become her career.

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF SOUTH FLORIDA’S CIRCLE OF WISE WOMEN ANNOUNCE VIRTUAL ROSE SOIREE EVENT 

 Rose Soiree Honors Susan Renneisen, Pins New Circle of Wise Women Members and Raises Funds for JA Programs and Girls Scholarships 

 Junior Achievement of South Florida’s Circle of Wise Women (CWW) and event Chairs Maureen Canada and Jan Nouss will host Rose Soiree presented by TD Bank on Wednesday, September 16, from 5:00 p.m.-6:15 p.m. 

This virtual event celebrates the 2020 Woman of Wisdom (WOW) Honoree Susan Renneisen, Vice President of Community Affairs and Special Events at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. It also pins the newest members of the CWW, as well as awards three deserving female students from JA programs with scholarships. 

“Even the JA Circle of Wise Women founding members had no idea how significant their impact would be. Initially, the mission was to support and advocate for JA. But this amazing group of women that created JA World Uncorked and the Rose Soiree have now expanded their reach to provide scholarship opportunities for young women from JA’s high school programs. The Circle continues to look for new and innovative ways to support JA’s mission. You may want to join them,” said Diana Metcalf, JA Director of Development 

 JA’s CWW recognizes Renneisen as this year’s WOW because she is not only hard working and committed but has added much needed value and innovation in her industry. Starting her career in the hospitality industry, she began to establish her reputation as an innovative event planner, caterer and decorator while working with several casinos.  

Her talents range from event production, logistics, marketing, catering, convention services and employee training. She also has dedicated her time and talents to Junior Achievement of South Florida and CWW, including assisting with the production of the 10th Anniversary of JA World Uncorked.

It is an honor to be recognized as the 2020 Woman of Wisdom. Junior Achievement of South Florida and the Circle of Wise Women have done so much for our community to help today’s youth become tomorrow’s leaders. As someone who is philanthropic, I am proud to give back to such great organizations like JA,” said Susan Renneisen.

FINANCIAL LITERACY PROGRAM TO HELP
CHILDREN AND FAMILIES ACROSS BROWARD COUNTY

City of Coconut Creek, FL – On Saturday, July 11th Junior Achievement of South Florida (JASF) will be distributing backpacks from 10 am to 1 pm at JA World Huizenga Center at the Lillian S. Wells Pavilion, 1130 Coconut Creek Parkway in Coconut Creek. The backpacks will be filled with youth financial education materials, books, healthcare information, gift cards, snacks and other relevant items.

JASF has partnered with the Early Learning Coalition and other nonprofits who serve families in need to receive the backpacks. Farm Share, Inc. will be on site to provide fresh fruit to families registered to pick up backpacks

There has never been a more important time to stress the critical need for financial literacy than now. Since the day schools closed due to COVID-19, JASF provided free online resources to BCPS, teachers, students and parents so they had the tools to continue to educate our children on the importance of making informed financial decisions that can have a lasting impact.

Now that schools are closed for the summer, JASF stepped up once again and implemented an initiative to reach thousands of children with financial literacy education. Also, through a joint effort with community partners, the backpacks will include reading and health literacy information.

“In school, out of school and at home, learning never stops,” said Laurie Sallarulo, President & CEO of JASF, “That’s why JA has launched the Books, Bucks & Backpack initiative. The goal of this powerful movement is to financially educate children and families who need it most, so they may be empowered to have a more prosperous future. Junior Achievement of South Florida held its JA Diamond Anniversary Celebration, presented by Delta Air Lines, on Friday, April 5th, at JA World Huizenga Center at the Lillian S. Wells Pavilion. The unforgettable evening celebrated Junior Achievement of South Florida’s 60-year legacy of inspiring 1 million youth in Broward and south Palm Beach counties. A special part of the evening was inducting the 2019 JA Business Hall of Fame Laureates and honoring two outstanding community leaders.

Congratulations Laureates: Jim Allen, Hard Rock International and Seminole Gaming; Bob Birdsong, OK Generators; Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, Celebrity Cruises; and Steve Sadaka, StevenDouglas; 2019 Melissa Aiello Character Award recipient Lori Chevy, Bank of America; and 2019 Huizenga Lifetime Legacy Award recipient Lorraine Thomas.

JA CELEBRATES 60 YEARS AND 1 MILLION YOUTH INSPIRED AT DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

City of Coconut Creek, Florida—Junior Achievement of South Florida is hosting its Diamond Anniversary Celebration to honor 60 years of inspiring and preparing youth for the future. In addition, the organization will celebrate the milestone of serving 1 million students. The Diamond Anniversary Celebration, presented by Delta Air Lines, will be on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at JA World Huizenga Center at the Lillian S. Wells Pavilion.

This highly anticipated event will also celebrate South Florida business leaders who have made a significant impact in their industry and have demonstrated vision, commitment to excellence courageous leadership and community responsibility. 2,000 Students Attend Interactive Career Exploration Program

More Than 2,000 Students Will Attend JA Inspire –  An Interactive Career Exploration Program

City of Coconut Creek, Florida – On Friday, February 8, starting at 8:15 a.m., Junior Achievement of South Florida is hosting JA Inspire, an interactive career exploration program, in partnership with educators and industry leaders. The event will be held at JA World Huizenga Center at the Lillian S. Wells Foundation Pavilion and will begin with a community breakfast with community and business leaders.

At the community breakfast, there will be a press conference to highlight the JA Fellows Company entrepreneurship program. The community will hear from the JA DHSP Enterprises team representing Dillard High School, about their unique product, “DHSP Safe Block,” that was inspired by the recent tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Hear about how their product, which covers door windows to deter a shooter, may be a potential solution to keeping students safe in the classroom during a safety threat.

“It is very time consuming for teachers in an emergency situation to find tape and paper to cover their windows,” said DHSP team representative. “Our product can help teachers prepare quickly in an emergency.”

More than 2,000 students will be participating in the JA Inspire program. During the simulation at JA World, students will be introduced to high growth/high paying careers in industries including construction, health, marine, aviation, finance, automotive, technology, hospitality and government.

“JA Inspire is designed to have a deep impact on the students as they begin to explore their future career choices. Before the day of the simulation, students participate in 3 hours of career readiness curriculum. This combination or classroom curriculum and interactive simulation is what makes JA programs unique,” said Laurie Sallarulo, President/CEO.

More than 40 exhibitor partners will participate and have the opportunity to connect and inspire students through an interactive experience. Business representatives will also share information about their industry, career paths, job responsibilities and business culture.

About JA Fellows Company Entrepreneurship Program:

JA Fellows is an in-depth, highly intensive leadership and entrepreneurship program for high school students.

Students gain real-world business experience by working in groups of 20-25, conceptualizing, capitalizing, and managing their own small businesses. Throughout this real-life entrepreneurship experience, students develop an entrepreneurial mindset which includes skills such as communication, financial management, problem-solving, collaboration and time management skills.

Mentors, in teams of four, coach students through the process of starting and running a small business. “Spark Tank” competitions (Shark Tank-like events) are judged by local business leaders.
